Built in 18th century , Muselim’s house is the oldest preserved building in Valjevo, and at a time it was a part of larger complex of administrative buildings in the town centre. However, basic historic value of this object is that it is the only material remnant directly connected to decapitation of dukes, immediate cause for Serbian revolution. By the beggining of 1804, Valjevo dukes Aleksa Nenadovic and Ilija Bircanin were imprisoned in the basement and from this dungeon they were taken to execution sight, on 4th of February. Later, their heads were displayed for public at the top of this building. Simultaniously, all over Serbia, Turkish troops killed dosens of tribunes and leaders, for reputation and role they had prior to upraising. Aleksa and Ilija are symbolising this carnage, while Muselim’s house remains in memory as a place where new light of freedom was born.
Exhibition decapitation of dukes is placed in the basement while ground floor presents the important role people of Valjevo had in Serbian uprisings.
